During the High-level Segment of COP23 Dr. Theo De Jager, WFO President, gave his statement on behalf of Farmers’ Constituency. Here the full text.
«Thank you, Chair.
My name is Theo De Jager from the World Farmers Organisation and I’m speaking on behalf of the Farmers Constituency.
Here in Bonn we have heard that we require a transformation of our agriculture sectors and food systems.
Under the presidency of Fiji we have witnessed the start of that transformation, with Parties in the SBSTA “agriculture family” reaching agreement on future work on our “special sector”.
True transformation will require greater ambition, innovation and the scaling up technology transfer; investment in research and extension; improved farm business profitability; and an ambitious financing framework particularly for farmers in developing countries transforms farm productivity and resilience across the world, so that no farmer is left behind.
And integral to this, is ensuring that farmers, especially including women and the farmers of the future, are at the centre of discussions and actions.
Vinaka. Thank you»
