In the context of the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2017 held in New York, a thematic review took place on 11th July. Divided in two segments, the goal of the session was to offer Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGoS) the opportunity to report on their contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.
Dr. Luis Miguel Etchevehere, President of “Sociedad Rural Argentina” and WFO board member, spoke at the second segment, titled “Major groups and other stakeholders: challenges and pathways to eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world”. His intervention focused on the challenge of implementing the SDGs, stressing that “Sustainable agriculture is key to global food security and to foster prosperity in rural areas, this is why we famers stand ready to closely cooperate with Governments for a successful implementation of the SDGs. We really hope that the debates that are being held these days, at the 2017 session of the HLPF will further enrich our cooperation towards poverty eradication and prosperity at global level. It will not be easy to meet the challenge of feeding ten billion people in the next fifteen years, but we have multiple tools available, we must work together to make sure the successful implementation of the overall Agenda 2030 is achieved.”
