On November 22nd, within the event “European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction”, in Rome, Mr. Raffaele Maiorano, President of the Italian WFO Member Organization ANGA- Associazione Nazionale Giovani Agricoltori, attended on behalf of WFO a special panel discussion on technologies and data.
The discussion addressed the issue of data through different topics, the first of which was the need for a multi-stakeholder approach at all the stages of the efforts for disaster risk reductions.
The latest progresses made in terms of technologies and data management have opened a large range of opportunities to achieve effective Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), but several gaps and challenges have to be addressed in order to ensure a better use of the information and a stronger involvement of all stakeholders.
As farmers’ representative, Mr. Maiorano, during his speech expressed the need of closing the gap between science and farming sector to exchange more data, get useful information and have access to the right tools.
“Data only don’t mean anything without cross-sectoral approaches”, reiterated Mr. Bernardo de Bernardinis, Coordinator of the National User Forum of the Copernicus Programme.
