H.E. Ambassador Mario Arvelo Caamaño, Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the UN Rome-based Agencies, has just been elected as Chair of the Committee on World Food Security.
During his acceptance speech, he stressed that harmony between chair, secretariat, bureau and advisory groups are crucial for a correct functioning of the CFS.
Moreover he said that we won’t be able to achieve end of hunger by 2030 if we don’t change our approach to this dramatic issue. CFS can play so as to have a real impact on the topics it focuses on, he said: contributing to achieve SDG2 (end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition) and serving as a platform where to debate and propose ways to end hunger and malnutrition.
WFO congratulates H.E. Ambassador Caamaño on his election and extends a special thank to H.E. Ambassador Gornass for all the work she has done in the last two years as CFS Chair.
