November 19th was the First World Day of the Poor. On the Osservatore Romano, Mgr. Fernando Chica Arellano, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to FAO, IFAD and WFP, wishes to draw attention on the need of an engagement of the whole International Community to fight against poverty and allow the full development of every man and woman on Earth.
In its editorial he gives the example of Agriculture, where food waste and land grabbing by multinational companies are intolerable phenomena and that “deprive the poorest of essential goods and directly affect the sovereignty of countries and are vehicle of new tensions and conflicts”.
In this view, Monsignor Arellano stresses thatalmost all countries continue to concentrate resources in arms to the detriment of those destined to cooperation and development.
