Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) 19-21 January 017

The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) is an international conference that focuses on central questions concerning the future of the global agri-food industry. It is held every year in January during International Green Week (IGW) in Berlin. At numerous events the three-day forum offers representatives from the worlds of politics, business, science and civil society an opportunity to share ideas and agree on a different key topic of agricultural policy each year. The GFFA is organised by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) in cooperation with GFFA Berlin e.V., the Senate of Berlin and Messe Berlin GmbH.

The conference begins on Thursday with a kick-off event. This event introduces that year’s GFFA key subject "Agriculture and water - the Key to feeding the World2. On Thursday and Friday various representatives organise a total of ten expert panel discussions under the GFFA. During these events particular aspects of the GFFA topic are discussed in more depth, which ensures that the GFFA is closely meshed with current scientific thinking. Two High Level Panels hosted by international organisations also take place on the Friday.

At the Cooperation Market on Friday associations, companies, universities and the BMEL have the opportunity to present the activities they are carrying out in the agri-food sector. This – along with the Business Lounge which is open on Thursday and Friday – provides all the GFFA participants with an opportunity to speak with each other and exchange experiences.

On Saturday afternoon the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture Berlin e.V., which brings together the German agri-food sector, hosts the International Business Panel Discussion in the Deutsche Telekom Building in Berlin.

The political highlight of the GFFA is the Berlin Agriculture Ministers’ Conference, which takes place in the Weltsaal of the Federal Foreign Office. With 65 ministers at the last summit, this is the world’s largest conference of agriculture ministers. A final communiqué representing the common position of the ministers provides impetus following the GFFA for international discourse on agricultural policy.

WFO's Young farmers will join the Meeting of International Young Farmers on Friday, 20 January 2017. During the event Young Farmers will prepara a draft statement that they will present to the International ministers of agriculture on the next day. The statement will be focused on the main challenges the young farmers in the future. They will also include recommendations to the Ministers of Agriculture.
