Advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with Farmers

For over a decade, the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) has been advocating for the critical role of farmers in achieving sustainable development. Farmers are key to reducing hunger and food insecurity, preserving nature, and ensuring the success of the 2030 Agenda.

Since the early stages of the process that followed Rio+20, WFO has played an active role in the negotiation and adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), co-leading the Farmers’ Major Group and contributing to the inclusion of Goal 2 – Zero Hunger, with its clear focus on agriculture.

Since 2015, WFO has held Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and has addressed the UN General Assembly, ensuring that the voice of farmers is heard at the highest level of global governance.

Today, as the world moves forward in the Decade of Action (2020–2030), WFO continues to champion farmer participation in the High-Level Political Forum and other SDG-related processes, offering farmers’ representatives a platform to share their knowledge, experiences, and priorities — and reinforcing agriculture’s central role across all 17 Goals.
