SUMMARY:Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction
DESCRIPTION:The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is a critical component of the monitoring and implementation process of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030). The outcomes of the Global Platform inform the deliberations of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and the UN 2019 Climate Summit from a disaster risk reduction perspective. These efforts contribute towards the successful achievement of a risk-informed 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development.\nThe sixth session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2019) will take place in Geneva\, Switzerland from 13 to 17 May 2019\, convened and organized by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and hosted by the Government of Switzerland. The session will be co-chaired by Switzerland and UNDRR. It will represent the next important opportunity for the international community to boost the implementation of the Sendai Framework related goals of the 2030 Agenda\, as well as commitments of the Paris Climate Agreement. It is also the last global gathering for all stakeholders before the deadline for achieving Target E of the Sendai Framework: to substantially increase the number of countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies by 2020.

SUMMARY:WFO General Assembly 2019
DESCRIPTION:The upcoming years promise new challenges and hopes: the world population is expected to grow to 10 billion by 2050\, and the drastic effects of climate change are requesting huge transformations. Malnutrition in all its forms\, whether undernourishment or obesity\, affect countries simultaneously. Gender inequalities exacerbate instability and keep women and girls from a full participation in their lives. Young farmers are expected to be the stewards of the agriculture of tomorrow\, however\, they still struggle to see their future safe. \nThe Sustainable Development Goals\, SDGs\, propose a coordinated response to these challenges by 2030 and farmers are called to take upon a huge role in their attainment. This provides incredible opportunities for the farming community to play the “primary role” they deserve and need to embrace in each country of the world. \nTo this aim\, it is necessary to adopt a truly farmers driven approach and start building on the best practices and precious experiences that farmers are already implementing in this era of interconnection and knowledge sharing\, so to magnify the impact of sustainable practices. \nINNOVATION in all its forms is the catalyst that can light up the way forward\, transforming the farm towards an improved viability and the food systems towards global sustainability. \nIn Luxembourg\, WFO will raise the most important point about innovation: putting farmers at the heart of innovation\, participating and learning in collective and collaborative processes\, setting the agendas and working on execution. \nThe FARMERS’ ROUTE has been set and we are navigating towards a more sustainable future for all.
