SUMMARY:13th Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA)
DESCRIPTION:The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) is an international conference on central issues of global agricultural and food policies\, held in Berlin annually\, during the International Green Week. \nThe 2021 event will occur virtually from 18 to 22 January\, focusing on how agriculture can provide the world long-term with food for a balanced diet despite pandemics and climate change. \nRepresentatives from politics\, business\, science\, and civil society will convene to engage in a constructive exchange on the following four key questions: 1) How can food systems emerge stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic? 2) How can the agricultural sector help prevent further pandemics? 3) How can food systems become more climate-resilient? 4) How can food systems improve in mitigating climate change? \nOn January 22\, the last day of the event\, the Berlin Agriculture Ministers’ Conference will take place.\nIt is the world’s largest conference of agriculture ministers\, attended by around 70 agriculture ministers and high-level representatives from more than ten international organisations\, such as FAO\, OECD\, WFP and the World Bank.\nAt the conference\, the agriculture ministers formulate a common political position on the respective GFFA subject in the final communiqué\, which has to date always been unanimously adopted. These results are fed into further international discussions on agricultural policy. \nClick HERE to register for the GFFA 2021. \n

SUMMARY:Climate Adaptation Summit 2021
DESCRIPTION:The Climate Adaptation Summit (CAS) 2021\, 25-26 January\, is an online global conference to accelerate\, innovate and scale up the world’s efforts in adapting to the inevitable effects of climate change. \n\nBringing together a range of key actors from institutions\, governments\, cities and communities\, the private sector\, and civil society\, including youth movements\, from all over the world\, CAS 2021 responds to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres’s call for “more concrete plans\, more ambition from more countries and more businesses” to make the world more climate-resilient. \nCAS 2021 will build on the advances of the United Nations Climate Action Summit 2019 and sustain momentum till COP26 in Glasgow in 2021. The conference culminates a Year of Action\, launched by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in 2019. \nCAS 2021 represents a unique moment in time to connect initiatives\, solutions and challenges to build back better and accelerate adaptation action. Building on the work of the Global Commission on Adaptation\, led by Ban Ki‑moon\, Bill Gates\, and Kristalina Georgieva\, the Netherlands Government aims to use this moment to deliver an Adaptation Action Agenda for a transformational decade towards 2030. \nThe World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO)\, as leader of the Farmers’ Constituency\, has been invited to give voice and visibility to the farmers. More information will follow soon. \nThe closing session will be held in conjunction with the Davos World Economic Forum. \nThe provisional programme can be viewed at https://www.cas2021.com/about‐cas2021/programme. \nPlease note that the number of registered participants will be limited.
