The upcoming years promise new challenges and hopes: the world population is expected to grow to 10 billion by 2050, and the drastic effects of climate change are requesting huge transformations. Malnutrition in all its forms, whether undernourishment or obesity, affect countries simultaneously. Gender inequalities exacerbate instability and keep women and girls from a full participation in their lives. Young farmers are expected to be the stewards of the agriculture of tomorrow, however, they still struggle to see their future safe.

The Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, propose a coordinated response to these challenges by 2030 and farmers are called to take upon a huge role in their attainment. This provides incredible opportunities for the farming community to play the “primary role” they deserve and need to embrace in each country of the world.

To this aim, it is necessary to adopt a truly farmers driven approach and start building on the best practices and precious experiences that farmers are already implementing in this era of interconnection and knowledge sharing, so to magnify the impact of sustainable practices.

INNOVATION in all its forms is the catalyst that can light up the way forward, transforming the farm towards an improved viability and the food systems towards global sustainability.

In Luxembourg, WFO will raise the most important point about innovation: putting farmers at the heart of innovation, participating and learning in collective and collaborative processes, setting the agendas and working on execution.

The FARMERS’ ROUTE has been set and we are navigating towards a more sustainable future for all.
