From January 17th to 19th, 2019, a young farmers’ delegation of the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) joined the 11th Global Forum on Food and Agriculture (GFFA), that took place in Berlin, Germany, in the framework of International Green Week.
This year’s theme was “AGRICULTURE GOES DIGITAL – SMART SOLUTIONS FOR FUTURE FARMING” and the role of the young farmers was to address the rural youth perspective into the discussion.
To name but a few, Sarah Crofoot, from New Zealand, brought young farmers’ perspective to the table of the opening event of the GFFA; Augustina Diaz Valdez, from Argentina, joined the event “TECHNOLOGY, TRACKING, AND TRACEABILITY IN ANIMAL HEALTH: HOW DIGITIZATION IMPROVES OUR ABILITY TO PROTECT AGAINST DISEASE, ADVANCE WELL-BEING OF FARM ANIMALS AND SUPPORT LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION”; Denis Kabiito, from Uganda, addressed the audience of the Workshop “SUSTAINABLE LIVESTOCK GOES DIGITAL”; and Tamisha Lee, from Jamaica, and Francesco Longhi, from Italy, attended the panel discussion “DIGITAL SOLUTIONS FOR FARMING TODAY – HOW DOES TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION MATCH WITH YOUNG FARMERS’ NEEDS?”.
Like last year, two representatives of the young farmers’ delegation had the opportunity to address the Agriculture Ministers’ Conference at the German Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Ms Martha Agyemang from Ghana and Mr Tero Sarkala from Finland on behalf of the Young Farmers of the World called over 70 Ministers of Agriculture from all over the world to mobilize the talent and dedication of the Youth to ensure agriculture is equipped to prosper now and in the future.
All of them had clearly played their part in demonstrating young farmers’ forward-looking approach to work on challenges and opportunities of global agriculture!
