On October 24-29, a delegation of the World Farmers’ Organisation participated in the International Young Farmers’ Summit (IYFS 2022) hosted in Kigali, Rwanda, by the Pan-African Farmers’ Organisation (PAFO).
Ms Elizabeth Nsimadala participated as President of the Eastern Africa Farmers Federation (EAFF) and WFO Board Member Representative for Africa, together with Giulia De Castro, Advocacy, Policy and Partnerships Officer at the WFO Secretariat. 

Under the theme “Youth in Agricultural Transformation through Innovation”, the Summit aimed to strengthen and spread the voice of young farmers in the international arena. In this regard, the event had three parts: first, an African Young Farmer’s Forum, then a Young African and European Farmers’ meeting about a partnership between Africa and the EU and finally, the International Summit that included African and European farmers, as well as Asian and Americas. 

Many young farmers from WFO Members were invited and participated in the Summit, including Khoushbou Sewraj from FALCON, Mauritius; Richard Ssemwanga from UNYFA, Uganda; Benjamin Obeng from COFAG, Ghana; Noel Kafera from FUM, Malawi; Marlize Grobbelaar from SAAI, South Africa; Manuel Etcheveherre from SRA, Argentina, as well as young farmers’ representatives from INGABO, KENAFF, UNFFE, UNYFA, CFA, UTAP, MTK, LRF, Coldiretti, among others. 

On October 25, in the framework of the International Young Farmers’ Summit, PAFO, in collaboration with the World Farmers’ Organisation, hosted The Climakers Africa Workshop.
The workshop aimed at identifying young farmers’ needs and practical solutions related to climate change adaptation and mitigation 

Ms Nsimadala provided opening and closing remarks, while Khoushbou Sewraj shared her experience as a young farmer from Mauritius. 

The outcomes of the workshop will be presented to COP27.
