2025 Bonn Climate Change Conference (SB62)
The 2025 Bonn Climate Change Conference, also known as the 62nd Sessions of the UN Climate Change Subsidiary Bodies (SB62), will take place from 16 to 26 June 2025 at the World Conference Centre in Bonn, Germany.
Held under the auspices of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), this conference serves as a key milestone between COP 29 in Baku and COP 30 in Belém, continuing negotiations on several unresolved issues from the previous session.
Adaptation will be central to the discussions. Parties will continue work on defining indicators for tracking progress towards the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) and reviewing the functioning of the Adaptation Fund, with a growing focus on ensuring these processes reflect the realities of rural contexts and support effective outcomes at farm level. In parallel, discussions are expected to advance on the mitigation work programme, the just transition work programme, and other key areas linked to implementation. The session will also serve as an opportunity to lay further groundwork on the Baku-to-Belém Roadmap to 1.5°C, particularly in identifying barriers to climate finance access and scaling up investment-ready solutions in agriculture, while generating momentum for the next cycle of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Importantly, SB62 will also feature the first workshop under the Sharm el-Sheikh Joint Work on Implementation of Climate Action on Agriculture and Food Security (SJWA). This marks a critical step in advancing practical, inclusive solutions for the sector, and a key opportunity to ensure that farmers have a seat at the table, policy coherence is strengthened, and partnerships across and beyond the value chain are made fairer and more effective.
The World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) will participate with a delegation composed of representatives from its member organisations: Jenny Brunton from National Farmers’ Union (NFU UK); Tobias Gräs from the Danish Agriculture and Food Council (DAFC) and Ravi Kumar from United Farmers Front (UFF), both members of the WFO Working Group on Climate Change.
They will be joined by representatives from the WFO Secretariat, specifically Secretary General Andrea Porro, Luisa Volpe, Advocacy, Policy and Partnerships Practice Leader, and Francesco Brusaporco, Senior Policy Officer. Ceris Jones, former Facilitator of the WFO Working Group on Climate Change, will also join the delegation. Together, Ceris Jones and Francesco Brusaporco serve as Co-Focal Points of the UNFCCC Farmers’ Constituency.
In a joint effort with the UNFCCC Farmers’ Constituency, which it coordinates, the WFO will take part in the Conference to elevate farmers’ voices in the climate negotiations. As frontline communities, farmers are among the first to experience the impacts of climate change and hold significant potential to contribute to both mitigation and adaptation. In the lead-up to COP 30, it is essential that their role in climate efforts is fully recognised, and that their knowledge and priorities are meaningfully integrated into decision-making. As the intersessional negotiations in Bonn approach, WFO remains committed to working with Parties and all stakeholders to ensure farmers are actively engaged as key partners in delivering effective and inclusive climate solutions.
