2nd RENOFARM International Symposium
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Chongqing Academy of Animal Sciences will co-host the 2nd International Symposium on Pathways to Reduce the Need for Antimicrobials to Support Sustainable Agrifood Systems Transformation, taking place on 28–29 April 2026 in Chongqing, China.
Held under the theme “Accelerating Actions and Scaling Solutions to Reduce Antimicrobial Need for Sustainable and Resilient Agrifood-Livestock-Aquaculture Systems”, the Symposium will bring together approximately 400 participants — including government representatives, producers’ organisations, academia, the private sector, and international organisations — to take stock of progress under the RENOFARM initiative and advance practical pathways to reduce antimicrobial use in agrifood systems globally.
World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) Secretary General Andrea Porro has been invited to contribute to the High-level Dialogue “Leadership for Change — Aligning Policy and Practice on AMR”, scheduled for Tuesday, 28 April. The session will convene senior leaders to address the structural, economic and policy barriers that sustain antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in agrifood systems, discussing concrete actions needed to reduce antimicrobial use through regulatory reforms, incentive structures, and cross-sector coordination.
WFO’s participation builds on its longstanding engagement on AMR, including at the UN General Assembly High-level Meeting on AMR in 2024, and reflects its commitment to engaging farmers as key partners in developing and implementing strategies to reduce antimicrobial use across agrifood systems.
