World Farmers' Organisation (WFO) joins the Climate Week NYC 2026

Climate Week NYC 2026

From 20 to 27 September 2026, the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) will join Climate Week NYC, organised by Climate Group alongside the United Nations General Assembly.

Bringing together leaders and decision-makers from business, government, finance, civil society and international organisations, Climate Week NYC offers a global platform to advance climate action, promote partnerships and accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient future.

Throughout the week, WFO will engage in high-level meetings and discussions to underscore that effective climate action in agrifood systems must be shaped with farmers and their organisations, recognising their knowledge, investing in their capacity to innovate, and ensuring that the transition creates concrete opportunities at farm level.

As part of its engagement in New York, WFO will co-host “Data: The New Cash Crop” with Virginia Tech’s Global Agricultural Productivity Initiative. The event will take place at REGEN HOUSE on 24 September at 14:00 EDT.

Farm-level data is becoming increasingly important across food and agricultural supply chains. Food companies rely on it to measure and report supply chain emissions, advance their decarbonisation commitments, and strengthen the resilience of their sourcing strategies. Yet collecting and producing reliable agricultural data requires farmers to invest time, knowledge and resources.

As demand for this information grows, so do important questions: Who controls farm data? Who determines how it can be accessed and used? And how can farmers share in the value it generates?

The event will map the agricultural data ecosystem, examining how information is generated and moves across the food system — from farm machinery and digital tools to satellites, processors and buyers. Participants will explore governance models that recognise farmers not simply as data providers, but as active partners in decisions concerning the access, use and value of the data generated on their farms.

The event aims to contribute to a more transparent and fair agricultural data ecosystem in which innovation supports farmers’ needs, rights and economic opportunities.

Through its participation in Climate Week NYC, WFO will continue to advocate for climate and digital solutions designed with farmers, responsive to their realities and aimed at strengthening their capacity to build more resilient and sustainable agrifood systems.
