Young farmers from WFO will speak at the GASL Webinar

GASL Webinar “Strategies for Generational Renewal and Youth Engagement in Agriculture”

On 16 April 2026, from 15:00 to 16:30 CEST, the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL), in collaboration with the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO), will host a webinar on “Strategies for generational renewal and youth engagement in agriculture: Reversing urbanization megatrends for rural development.”

Part of a series supporting the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP) and the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF) 2026, the event will facilitate dialogue on intergenerational transfer and farm succession, while highlighting youth perspectives on barriers to entering and taking over farms. It will also identify policy gaps related to pensions, land transfer, and youth incentives, with the aim of co-developing actionable recommendations to make farming a viable and attractive career for young people.

Representing the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO), three young farmers will contribute to the discussion: Evangelista Chekera, WFO Gymnasium Alumna from the Zimbabwe Farmers Union, Pier Carlo Tondo, WFO Youth Committee Facilitator from Coldiretti Giovani, and Ngan Kimlay from the Cambodian Farmer Federation Association of Agricultural Producers (CFAP). Their contributions will bring on-the-ground experience, highlighting both challenges and potential solutions for young people in the livestock sector.

GASL is a multi-stakeholder partnership established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), providing an inclusive, evidence-based platform for livestock stakeholders to identify pathways towards sustainable development through the transformation of livestock and agrifood systems.
