Second Interregional Dialogue on Family Farming

Second Interregional Dialogue on Family Farming

The World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO), represented by its Board Member for Asia, Khem Bahadur Pathak, will take part in the FAO Second Interregional Dialogue on Family Farming in Kathmandu, Nepal, on 12 and 13 August. This high-level event is part of a global series designed to foster the exchange of solutions, innovative practices, and lessons learned among countries, with the aim of shaping the forthcoming Global Forum on Family Farming.

Family farming, despite its fundamental role in food production, continues to face major challenges, from limited access to resources, markets, and technology to the escalating impacts of climate change. These pressures not only threaten food security but also jeopardise rural livelihoods and the sustainability of agricultural systems, particularly in vulnerable regions.

The Second Interregional Dialogue will provide a platform to share global experiences and identify how family farming can contribute to the United Nations Decade of Family Farming commitments. It will also explore ways to enhance the capacity of family farmers to adopt sustainable practices, encourage innovation and technology transfer, and strengthen partnerships that support farmers’ access to markets, finance, and decision-making processes.

Through its active involvement, WFO reaffirms its commitment as Vice-Chair of the UNDFF International Steering Committee to collaborate with FAO, IFAD, and farmers’ organisations in elevating the voice of family farmers – particularly women and youth – and in fostering an enabling political environment that strengthens the resilience, sustainability, and prosperity of family farming communities.
