Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7 )
The seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) will take place from 8 to 12 December 2025 at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. This year’s theme, “Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet,” will guide global discussions and negotiations on environmental action.
The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), with representatives from 193 Member States, is the world’s highest-level decision-making body for matters related to the environment. It meets every two years to set the global environmental agenda, provide overarching policy guidance, and define policy responses to address environmental challenges.
Representing the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO), a delegation from the WFO member organisation Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF) — including James Thiaine Imwonyo, Facilitator of the WFO Working Group on Nature and Biodiversity, Valary Otieno from the WFO Gymnasium Programme, Lilian Wambua, and Liluy Tanui — will participate in UNEA-7 in Nairobi to strengthen WFO engagement in global discussions on climate, nature and biodiversity and advocate for greater representation of farmers’ voices in multilateral environmental processes.
UNEA-7 will be an important space for WFO to nurture collaboration within the Farmers’ Major Group and to dialogue with representatives from the UNEP Secretariat and Member States interested in engaging farmers more effectively. It is an opportunity to bring farmers’ priorities to the forefront of the conversation, strengthening their capacity to continue working with nature and contribute effectively to more sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems.
