Loading Events

The meeting of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in 2020 will be held from Tuesday, 7 July, to Thursday, 16 July 2020, under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council. This will include the three-day ministerial meeting of the forum from Tuesday, 14 July, to Thursday, 16 July 2020.

The theme will be “Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development”.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and expected limitations on in-person meetings and international travel, all meetings will be held virtually, including all side and special events.

Again this year, the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) will join the debate to reiterate that farmers, men, women and youth, are the most powerful actors to accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. During the two weeks of the virtual HLPF, WFO will be engaged in the following session and events:

Transformative pathways to realize the 2030 Agenda: a whole of society approach taking into account the impact of Covid19 (stakeholder perspective) – HLPF Session

WFO will attend the session as a member of the Steering Group of the Major Group and Other Stakeholders (MGoS) Mechanism.

Lessons from a new Disaster: National and Local Disaster Risk Reduction Strategies in Action – Side event of the Sendai Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism

WFO, as member of the Advisory Group of the Sendai Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM), joined the task group for the organisation of this side event which aims at enhancing the understanding of the value of effective DRM strategies to Covid19 response as well as increasing the awareness of the global target E of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and its relevance in the context of Covid19.

It is worth mentioning that , thanks to WFO advocacy work, the Climakers programme has been officially included in the background paper among the good practices within the context of food systems.

Furthermore, Dr Theo de Jager, WFO President, will be addressing the session as Lead Discussant on behalf of the Farmers’ Major Group.

WFO, as member of the COPAC Board, will be represented by Ms Meena Pokhrel, Deputy General Manager of NACCFL (WFO member organisation from Nepal) who will be addressing the audience sharing her perspectives on climate action within the agricultural sector and its relation with women & youth empowerment as well as domestic resource mobilization.
