WFO representing farmers’ interests at ‘Bold Actions for Food as a Force for Good’, the first pre-event in support of the UN Food Systems Summit 2021
On November 23 and 24, the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) together with the World Economic Forum, World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Unilever, PepsiCo, Royal DSM, Rabobank, One Young World, Tufts University’s Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy, Wageningen University & Research, and the Government of The Netherlands, will be co-leading the virtual meeting ‘Bold Actions for Food as a Force for Good‘, the first pre-event in support of the United Nations Food Systems Summit 2021.
WFO will be participating in several sessions to bring the farmers’ voice into the conversation, and especially will be hosting a session on “The Climakers – A Farmers Driven Climate Change Agenda Towards the Sustainability of Food Systems” on November 24 at 12 PM CET. Interpretation will be available in French and English.
With THE CLIMAKERS initiative, Farmers worldwide, with the support of the other actors in the food value chain, the civil society, the international organizations, academia and the media, are promoting a completely reversed paradigm applying an authentic bottom-up approach, where farmers have the opportunity to lead the political process on climate change and build a real “farmers driven climate change agenda” based on the best practices that farmers are already implementing as practical solutions to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
This session aims to raise awareness about the contribution of farmers to the sustainability of food systems showcasing grass-root farmers driven solution to climate change and how the UN Food System Summit of next year can become a turning point to ensure a “Farmers Driven Approach” to the shift towards sustainable food systems.
